First off let me apologize for the absence. I became so over worked (which is a good thing) that I wasn’t able to keep up with a weekly podcast.

This weeks episode is definitely a strange change of pace but I think you guys will enjoy.

This is what I look at half of the day.

The other day I came to work (set) on the film Sake Bomb with my iPhone’s trusty recorder switched on and recorded throughout the day random little tidbits of set life.

We talk to Grip dep, producers, art department, electric, P.A.’s, and background actors. Forget anything you’ve ever seen in a making of documentary. This is really what set life is like. It’s raw, real and unedited. To be honest it’s just a bunch of people joking around and doing their jobs.

Nothing too scandalous. But definitely not what you would expect if you’ve never been on a film set before. That and I realized just how much of a dick I can come off as. Good lord. Hope you guys enjoy the show!

Sure happy it’s Thursday because we have an awesome show for you today. This weeks guest is my good friend and one of the best actors I know Matthew Currie Holmes.

The question you axed me is a secret...Wow that was bad. I need to work on my caption jokes.

For a guy that claims to be a huge narcissist Matt is one of the kindest and coolest cats around. We met a few years ago and it took another year for me to realize that he was the the director in Wrong Turn 2 wearing the Battle Royale t-shirt. I felt a bit like an idiot when I finally realized this. I’m never going to get anywhere in this town.

Unlike Matthew who not only was an established Canadian actor, but also a story editor and is now moving into the director chair for his film P5YCH. Not to mention the star of Stay at Home Dad the John Skipp/Andrew Kasch short film I DP’d last year, which Mr. Holmes has won a few best actor awards for. We get to talk about all this and more while plugging and pimping products that we have nothing to do with. That being said we did want to plug the awesome Jump Cuts Cafe in Studio City because that’s where we recorded the episode!

Hopefully in the coming weeks we’ll have some live shows there that people can come and  and enjoy.

This weeks guest is our first Emmy award winner.

Obviously being on my show is THE highlight of her career.

What does she do? Well it depends on who you ask. If you were to ask Steven Spielberg he’d say she was a great foley supervisor. If you were to ask Joe Dante he’d say she was a great dialogue editor.

Either way you’d discover Solange is a fantastic post sound specialist. On this episode her and I sit down to discuss her long career of films ranging from Gremlins, to Die Hard 1, 2, and With a Vengeance, along with just what exactly she does in sound, what foley means, and I even get to explain a few camera terms to Solange!

So in essence we teach each other, which is what Solange does on the side at Video Symphony school in Burbank, CA. Which is a great school for both sound and video editing. Not to mention they were nice enough to let me use their recording booth to do this episode, and it is probably my best sounding episode to date!

So sit back and learn a thing or two about post production sound from a true professional in the business!

This weeks guest on Same Shit, Different Show is screenwriter and actor Todd Farmer!

Todd kept pretending to be Bob Fosse during all of his close ups.

Todd and I met a few times over the years at various horror gatherings but I never really knew the guy until we did American Muscle together, where Todd played the main antagonist. Not to mention a hilarious story containing Nick Principi’s penis and Todd’s fake head.

While we go deep with American Muscle, we also dig into Jason X, and how Todd was trying to make an Alien film with Jason Vorhees, as well as My Bloody Valentine 3D and the gloriousness of Tom Atkins and Drive Angry gloriousness of Nic Cage.

Buckle up folks, it’s going to be a fun ride.

We got a doozy of an episode this week. So doozified that our guest isn’t even using his real name. This week we welcome, Porno Mike!

Neither of these people are Porno Mike.

Porno Mike is currently an video editor at a big name porn distributor and boy does he have some stories. From QCing (Quality Checking) porn videos and catching women puking that was left in during a take, to having to cut around a guy pop shooting a little bit of blood. Shit, blood, piss, and semen. All in a days work for Porno Mike who cuts all these nuggets of disgusting out so you can enjoy your porn gag free.

Dear lord I’m getting sort of gaggy thinking about this.

So yeah, another porn filled episode folks. And not nearly as sexy as you’d like, so put your pants back on and sit tight. You’re in for a wild ride.

This weeks guest is Sean Clark, writer, producer, and celebrity manager.

Singing Whitesnake like a boss.

Sean and I for years way back in the day ran around the country shooting interviews for The Horror Channel, and eventually Dread Central. We both went off in our own separate ways and Sean went into managing celebrities for convention appearances as well as writing for Horror Hound magazine with his article Horror’s Hollowed Grounds.

If you’ve seen the Halloween 25 years of terror or the Never Sleep Again bonus features, you have seen an episode of Horror’s Hollowed Grounds in which Sean visits famous filming locations for your favorite horror flicks. If you haven’t checked em out, do so!

Sean and I sit down and talk about his film The Black Waters of Echo’s Pond (which he was the writer and producer on), Horror’s Hollowed Grounds,  just how the convention circuit really works, as well as living the life of a geek.

who by all counts is a Jane of all trades. From acting, working at a visual effects post house, line producing, and being the host and producer of the travel channel pilot I flew out to Missouri to shoot, Kristen has quite the handful of industry experience.

And oddly enough, not only did Kristen and I work together on this pilot but years prior very early in my career I worked with her on a small b-horror film called Brides of Sodom.

Oh yes, we talk all about that, creepy auditions, low budget producing, reshooting an entire feature because the first time they recorded timecode on all the footage, and the travel channel pilot of course. Good times are had! Enjoy folks!

This weeks guest is American Muscle producer Travis Stevens

He's humming Pink Floyd's the Wall and vibrating my ear drums pleasurably.

who also produced A Horrible Way To Die, The Aggression Scale, and Mega Spider. 

This is a great episode to listen to if you’re a starving artist trying to figure out how to get your movie made because Travis goes into the very deep dark recess of the business side of the film industry, and just how mind numbing and painful it can be. But really…where to get your money. Because as Travis puts it “Wizards don’t give you money to make movies.”

Really great stuff. Along with all that we go into how Travis got his start from doing extra work on Starship Troopers and Jerry Maguire (with a hilarious Tom Cruise story) to doing free coverage on scripts just to make ends meet.

Wut?

Luckily that made me laugh before I read the next bit of news which rather broke my heart. Ray Bradbury, one of the greatest science fiction writers to have lived (and one of my personal favorites) has passed away at 91. Though he would resist being tied down to any genre through labeling, Bradbury is responsible for some amazing pieces of Scifi (and even horror) work. Most would probably know his name from Fahrenheit 451,  which was the first book I remember reading in grade school that made me start to question authority and the government.

Other than Fahrenheit though, Bradbury has a gigantic list of credits spanning film, television, books, and radio. As a kid I ate this mans work up like candy.

I’m sad to say it’s been a long time since I’ve picked up a Ray Bradbury short story or novel, and I truly hate that his death is what is getting me to think about doing it, but I suppose better late than never.

God speed Mr. Bradbury. Thank you for everything, and specifically thank you for bringing me to a higher level of thinking and intelligence and not just entertaining me.

So today I’m flying back from Missouri on a tightly fit Southwest flight. I have had just about an hour and a half of sleep, 3/4 of that was on the flight.

On top of all this, I have gas.

So I’m groggy as all hell after being awoken by the flight attendant to put my seat up and to turn off my headphones. I listen to the first request but ignore the second, because I’m a rebel and a ipod being on does nothing.

So in between nodding off, and a small
baby scaring me to death by poking my arm pit through the seats, we land.

I’m sitting there, listening to the cool haunting rhythms of The Social Network soundtrack when the sleepless farts hit. I’m so tired that I just start dropping fart bombs with prejudice.

My brain suddenly snaps and realize what was happening. Because I had Trent Reznor blasting in my year, and the lack of sleep, I thought the farts were silent. NOPE.

I was sitting on the plane while it taxi’d in, and I was just farting. In front of everyone. Loud. Smelly. And with no fucks given.

Once I realized though, I just pretended to be foreign so everyone would think that in my country it’s cool to just blow air biscuits at people.

John saw love at first site.

Fun episode this week with guest John Fallon, screenwriter and co-star of American Muscle. And not only is John a screenwriter and an actor, but he’s also the head honcho over at Arrow in the Head.

John and I sit down and discuss all of that along with his stint playing script doctor, his appearance in Saw II and Alone in the Dark (yes the Uwe Boll one), and of course American Muscle and how he wrote himself the only character with no lines.

I think you’ll come to learn that John is a macho kind of guy, and not the typical image a Canadian would normally come with.

This weeks guest is the real American Muscle himself, Nick Principe.

Preparing to fight or having a thoughtful moment?

Name ringing a bell? If you’re a fan of the Laid to Rest films then you should Nick is the freight train of destruction and doom, Chrome Skull. The dude is 6’7” so I can see why him running after you with a knife would be terrifying.

But before Nick cut his teeth in the masked killers genre, he started his career from the ground up as a P.A., worked in art department, stunts, special effects, etc. Not to mention got himself on the cover of Fangoria Magazine. The man has done just about everything this business can throw at someone.

And of course Nick is the lead in that little action film American Muscle I did a few weeks back and after the shoot I had him come sit down for a few beers to shoot the shit about his life, career, and the art of acting and stunt work.

And just as a special side note, this episode contains probably the funniest story I’ve ever heard from the set of Dexter. Just listen for it and enjoy.

C Nug getting Room Tone.

This weeks guest is the hilarious C Nug, our sound mixer from American Muscle, as well as the sound mixer from other films such as Aggression Scale, and A Horrible Way to Die.

Now I know what you’re thinking…who the hell is named C Nug? Don’t you fret, that is the first story we go into and discover the true origins of C Nug’s strange but quite funny name.

Then of course we delve into the technical trial and tribulations of sound mixing on set, while continuing to be a complete bad ass.

Listen and discover how C Nug controls his silent rage, manages to keep an entire working bar quiet with afternoon drunkards, and just how many times he’s heard an actor pee by accident.

This weeks guest is Staci Layne Wilson, journalist and press agent extraordinaire.

The blue in her hair makes her easier to spot in the swarm of press at Red Carpet events.

Staci  has been working in around this town for quite a while now, and besides Andrew Kasch, is someone I’ve known the longest in L.A. When I got my first gig shooting the Devil’s Rejects premiere in San Diego many years ago, Staci was stationed right next to me on the carpet.

And while I hated doing the red carpets, Staci thrived and has built herself a nice career as a film critic, on camera personality, and host of Inside Horror. Not to mention an author!

So Staci and I sat down and chatted about what it’s like to be on the other other side of the business. The press world! From red carpets, to press junkets (and the idiot questions that come with it), dealing with publicists, and the convention circuit.
